Pregnant Women

Maintain your oral health throughout your pregnancy

pregnancy dentist liverpool
Pregnancy can be an exciting time and while you have so much to plan for, your oral health may be one of the last things you’re thinking about. But it’s more important than ever to pay close attention to your dental health in this time with a pregnancy dentist.

That’s because hormone changes during pregnancy can affect your oral health and many pregnant women notice that their gums are red, inflamed and sometimes bleed when they brush their teeth. The swelling and inflamed gums are referred to as ‘pregnancy gingivitis’ and can start as soon as the second month of pregnancy. The hormone progesterone can be around 10 times higher than normal during pregnancy, affecting the body’s response to toxins as a result of plaque build-up. Women are therefore more susceptible to developing periodontal disease when these hormonal fluctuations occur.

Some women also experience a growth on their gums known as a pregnancy granuloma which are red nodules, usually found on the upper gums. While they are not dangerous, they can cause discomfort. Other oral health problems may include tooth erosion as a result of constant exposure to acid from severe morning sickness. Dry mouth is another major complaint, but can be easily remedied by drinking plenty of water and using sugarless candies to stimulate saliva flow.

If you are pregnant we recommend that you come to the practice for a thorough check up so we can help you to have a healthy and happy pregnancy.

This dental practice is outstanding. I am informed and involved in every aspect of my dental care. My dentist, is professional and understanding. I have complete faith in them and the rest of the staff. The surgery is modern and spotlessly clean and welcoming. A pleasure to go to the dentist actually!

This dentisit is fantastic with children and adults alike. As soon as you enter the staff are lovely and friendly the NHS dentist took their time with my son who is terrified of the dentist not any more, the dentist explained everything slowly and said to my son it didn’t matter how long it took there was no rush…they made my son feel relaxed, and they did the preocedure successfully, also instead of telling me about the usual sweets drinks etc the dentist directly told both my children. Very professional

This dentist is excellent they are so child friendly my son was terrified of the dentist and this dentist spent ages with them going through everything with my son, they did not rush my son and made appoint of saying they didn’t mind staying all night as long as my son was happy. Both my children are on first name terms with them and they think they are really cool, they make them laugh, but always explains about sugar and drinks and the damage they do. My son has completely changed his diet no fizzy drinks and very little sweet things, this was directly from a dentist visit here a few years ago They are great with adults too as I go their myself. Thanks to all the staff!
